Because of his parents’ interracial marriage of Caribbean and Caucasian parents, Philips had a cosmopolitan childhood. His father, Jonathan Philips, was born and raised in the United States. He is of Caucasian descent. On the other side, Sabine Robertson Philips, his mother, is mixed-race (Jamaican-American).
His mother is the musically accomplished daughter of a well-known Jamaican family, even though she was born in America. In addition, when Jaelan was a little boy, his Jamaican grandfather emigrated to the US.
Jaelan’s girlfriend, Morgan Ledenko, comes from a diverse ethnic background as well; she is originally from Yugoslavia. After fleeing Yugoslavia during World War II, Morgan’s father lived in Canada for a while before relocating to California. Jaelan is an American national who was born in Redlands, California.

Jaelan is from a musical family where every member plays a different instrument, despite his prowess in football. The renowned pianist and dean of Lynn University Conservatory of Music, Jon Robertson, is the grandfather of Jaelan. His grandfather was born in Jamaica, the son of an organist and preacher.
Jon’s father fell ill when he was four years old and required immediate medical attention that could only be obtained in the United States. Nine years old when he made his piano debut, Jon moved to California and began to gain notoriety in the United States. Jaelan also says that his grandfather supports his choice to pursue a football career and shares his passion for the game.
Following in Jon’s footsteps, Jaelan’s mother started playing the cello and still does. Jonathan Philips, Jaelan’s father, is a trumpet player as well. His parents were formerly symphonic musicians. Immersed in a musical environment, Jaelan acquired proficiency on the piano and guitar. Brenna Philips, the elder sister of Philips, was born on November 26, 1997, and she is also a music enthusiast.
