The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that the welcomed announcement of Doug Davidson’s (Paul Williams) return could lead to a major surprise. While he was last seen as Genoa City’s Chief of Police, is it possible that Mr. Williams will be revealed as the Newman family’s tormentor?
Savvy soaps fans surely hope the answer to the above question is no, as Paul would face jail time for his many crimes. It also wouldn’t be a stretch to think that a short stint return would be written, where this longtime Y&R character is purely brought back in the said scenario only to be a proper write-off, with a full series of retrospective scenes.
The actor’s past acknowledgment that he’d gone to recurring status in January 2108, and hadn’t been scheduled for any further work as of last fall was troubling. But Davidson’s head shot was never taken off Y&R’s cast list. That clearly meant a return was likely to be realized and now it has.
While the real-life back story isn’t yet known, it seems that Y&R’s newest head honcho’s, meaning executive producer and head writer Tony Morina and co-executive producer and head writer Josh Griffith, maybe reversing whatever decision was made about Paul’s need in GC, or so longtime fans are hoping.
If Davidson’s return will only be short-lived, then facts surrounding the open J.T. (Thad Luckinbill) case must be addressed. Recent dialogue had characters asking each other and the audience who had the background to have framed Victor (Eric Braeden, who first broke Davidson’s return news via social media), has been tormenting Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), and had the knowledge and know-how to install a surveillance system within the walls of the Newman Ranch?
A dink in the above theory that implies Paul as the bad guy would be Katie’s (Sienna Mercuri) lack of recognition. Based upon her age and without a laser memory, it’s hard to know if Katie would have recognized Paul.
But let’s assume that she does know who he is, and assuming he wasn’t wearing a disguise, then on this historical plot point alone, Chief Williams wouldn’t be the villain.
All who’ve followed Davidson’s Y&R career since his debut on the show in 1978, along with those who’ve been watching Paul for years less, recognized a stellar actor every time they saw him.
They, along with his many friends on the show are surely hoping that the chief, as Jordi Vilasuso (Rey) referred to him as part of a chorus of welcome back’s, will be seen in a permanent return storyline.
As Y&R tapes approximately six weeks in advance, news of Davidson’s return in mid-February could put Paul back on screen as of late March. It’s an easy leap of logic to conclude that’s when the J.T. storyline crescendos, or ends.
