One of my favorite looks last night was Handmaid’s Tale’s Samira Wiley’s Genny suit, complete with a white shirt and a tie. She commanded that carpet and I loved her hair and makeup too. At first I thought that the gold accents on the suit were little stars but they spell out Genny, the designer. Samira was nominated for Supporting Actress, which went to Gillian Anderson. She’s been nominated two other times in this category and she won an Emmy in 2018 for Guest Actress for this role.
Kathryn Hahn was in a strapless black Lanvin suit with a giant belt and a kind of short built in cape. She complemented the look with a gorgeous emerald necklace. That belt is so 80s and on point for Kathryn. (It seems to be a signature for the line, as Kerry Washington just wore a little Lanvin dress with the same giant belt.) Kathryn was nominated for Wandavision, which got shut out. I think that the Emmy voters just don’t watch or understand shows that aren’t strict comedy or drama.
Samira’s costar Madeline Brewer was in a scoop neck metallic bronze Tom Ford. Her styling is gorgeous but this is a miss for me, especially with those shoes. This was Madeline’s first nomination for an Emmy, which is hard to believe. I could have sworn she’d already won one.
