I think a lot of life insurance policies, which disqualify benefits for suicide within 2 years after issuance, also provide "limited benefits" during the first year or so. This is intended to cut down on--or at least cut the reward for--fraud.

Also, writing as a not-too-great-at-recovering gay man with "alcohol use disorder," OCD, PTSD, and an addictive personality, I am the last one to judge anyone else on their personal battles of any kind.
