Jonathan Morrissey Obituary – Just shy of his 52nd birthday, John Morrissey died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on October 28, 2023. John was born October 30, 1971, in Kansas City. He was quickly loved as the family baby. John developed longtime pals at Christ the King elementary and Bishop Ward high schools. Washburn University awarded John a BS in Criminal Justice. John could make anyone chuckle.

He kept visitors smiling even in his final days. In bed at Hospice House, he joked, checked on everyone, and poked fun. At WYCO Lake, John warned his younger nephew he would return to haunt him and slap fish off his line. John enjoyed golfing in scramble tournaments, collecting sports memorabilia, fishing with his dad, brothers, and nephew Daniel (especially on WYCO Lake opening day), and trying out his latest culinary gadget.

He enjoyed the sunshine and the latest fruity drink from the liquor store up the street in Rick’s Garage with his sister, niece, and nephews. John enjoyed riding his dog Sully around WYCO Lake and working in his yard like Morrissey. John also liked deck coffee with Cousin Billy. He loved his friends genuinely, gave the finest bear hugs, and made everyone feel special. John was UMKC Associate Budget Director for 20 years. He made lifelong coworker buddies. Karen, Heather, and Cody’s anecdotes and Johnisms are appreciated.

A real family. His grandparents Mack and Ginny Pryor, Bill and Anna Rodina Morrissey, and Ruth Morrisey died before John. Parents Dick Morrissey and Janet (Pryor) Orlowski, Uncle Tom Heffern, and best friend Dude. His stepfather, Jack Orlowski, sister Susan Morrissey (Miles), brothers Rick (Emily) and Tim (Diane), nephews Kyle,

Richard, and Daniel, niece Samantha, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins survive him.
