On this day thirteen years ago, Britain’s biggest girl band, Girls Aloud, were formed.
The five piece pop band, were put together on the talent show, Popstars The Rivals, where five solo artists were voted into the group by the public.
The band was made up of, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (Then Tweedy), Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle and Sarah Harding.
Girls Aloud, went on to achieve massive success, scoring twenty consecutive top ten hits, including four number 1’s and six top ten albums, including two number 1’s.
The group scored thirty top 40, singles and albums, in their time together.
In 2009, Girls Aloud, decided to take a break, with, Cheryl, going on to become a successful X Factor judge and a massive solo star, becoming the first UK female artist to score five number 1 singles, and also topping the album chart twice. Kimberley, has carved herself out a very successful West End career, with starring roles in Elf The Musical and Shrek, while also having her little boy, Bobby. Nicola has gone on to become a great songwriter, penning hits for artists including, Cheryl and Little Mix. Sarah, has had various roles in movies and also a guest role in the ITV soap, Coronation Street. And Nadine has starred in the Lord Of The Dance musical, and become a mother to her little girl, Anaiya.
In 2012, the girls reunited to celebrate their ten year anniversary, and released the official Children In Need single, ‘Something New’, along with their greatest hits album ‘Ten’.
In March of 2013, the band embarked on their eight date sell out ‘Ten’ arena tour, the tour was to be their last as a group, as after the last concert, the five piece informed their ‘Alouders’ that they would be going their separate ways, for good.
