While Captain Cheney had stepped back from active firefighting duties some years ago, his commitment to the community and the fire department remained steadfast. He continued to contribute his time and energy to the Sandown Fireman’s Association, exemplified by his recent volunteering efforts at the Sandown Fireman’s Chicken BBQ.
His presence and dedication were felt deeply by all who knew him. Beyond his service as a firefighter, Captain Cheney’s passions were multi-faceted. His background in the printing industry showcased his versatility, and his culinary skills were second to none. His whoopie pies were often hailed as some of the best, a testament to his passion for cooking and his knack for bringing joy to those around him. Captain Cheney’s service to the Town of Sandown extended beyond the fire department. He served as a volunteer firefighter, a Selectman, and even held the role of Transfer Station Supervisor.
